Laura M. Wellen, Esq.
Family Law Attorney
The vast majority of Laura’s career has been devoted to matrimonial law, with over ten years of experience in the field. She received both her B.A. in Psychology and her B.A. in Communication from Hiram College in 2003. Following her graduation from Cleveland- Marshall College of Law in 2008, Ms. Wellen has continued to amass advanced credentials that allow her to assist individuals and families through the family law landscape.
Laura has devoted her entire practice to family law, to assisting and representing individuals in complex family law matters, including those with personal or business assets and custodial disputes. Ms. Wellen has extensive experience in domestic relations, juvenile custodial concerns, adoption, child and spousal support concerns.
Refusing to allow law school to be the end of Laura’s pursuit of knowledge, she has gone on to complete more than 100 hours of training in Mediation. She has built on her training and experience as a Mediator to be certified as a Parenting Coordinator, and serves in Lake, Geauga, Cuyahoga, Lorain and Summit Counties as Parenting Coordinator. When engaged as a Parenting Coordinator, Ms. Wellen helps separated and divorced parents, tackling the inevitable hurdles that derive from parenting in two households and learning to communicate effectively.
In approaching each of her client’s situations, Laura calls on all varieties of her skills and experiences. Depending not only on her legal background, but also calling on skills developed in psychology, in communication, in yoga, in life, to assist her clients with the practical realities of charting a new course in their lives.
Ms. Wellen has been a member of the Ohio, Cleveland Metropolitan, Lake and Geauga Bar Associations for years. She was named a Rising Star by SuperLawyers from 2015-2019 and graduated from both the American Academy of Matrimonial Lawyers Institute for Family Law Associates in Chicago, Illinois in 2014 and the Ohio State Bar Association Leadership Academy in 2015. Still Laura was humbled when invited by the Cleveland Academy of Collaborative Professionals to join the ranks of some of the best Family Law minds in Cleveland, in 2019.
In addition to her professional activities and affiliations, she volunteers with City Dogs Cleveland, as a foster for the Cleveland Animal Protective League and is a mindful yogi and obsessive global wanderer.
